Seminar On Research Methodology

The Department of B.Voc Medical Laboratory Technology at AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce successfully organized a Seminar on Research Methodology for the Third Year Medical Laboratory Technology (TY MLT) students on 5th March 2026. The primary objective of the seminar was to enhance students’ understanding of research practices and to develop their analytical and scientific thinking skills. Research methodology is an essential component of higher education, especially in medical and laboratory sciences, as it helps students understand how scientific knowledge is generated, tested, and validated.

The seminar was delivered by the esteemed guest speaker Dr. Riyasat Peerzade from the Department of Commerce. Dr. Peerzade shared his valuable knowledge and experience with the students and explained the concept of research in a very simple and systematic manner. He highlighted the importance of research in academic growth, innovation, and evidence-based practice. The session aimed to motivate students to engage in research activities and understand the role of research in solving real-world problems.

During the seminar, Dr. Peerzade explained various stages involved in the research process. He discussed how to identify a research problem, select a suitable research topic, frame research objectives, and formulate hypotheses. He also elaborated on the importance of reviewing previous literature to understand the background of the study. Students were introduced to different research designs and methods of data collection such as surveys, observations, and experimental methods.

Furthermore, the speaker discussed the importance of proper data analysis and interpretation in research. He explained how collected data must be carefully organized, analyzed, and presented to reach meaningful conclusions. Dr. Peerzade also emphasized the need for accuracy, reliability, and objectivity while conducting research. He encouraged students to develop critical thinking and analytical skills, which are essential for conducting effective research in the field of medical laboratory technology.

Another important aspect discussed during the seminar was research ethics and academic integrity. The speaker informed students about the importance of maintaining honesty in research work, avoiding plagiarism, and giving proper credit to original authors through citations and references. He also explained how ethical research practices help maintain the credibility and authenticity of scientific work.

The seminar also highlighted the importance of research publications and presentations. Students were guided on how research findings can be documented in the form of research papers, articles, and conference presentations. Dr. Peerzade encouraged the students to participate in seminars, workshops, and research projects during their academic journey to strengthen their academic profile and professional skills.

The session was interactive and engaging, where students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their views. The discussion helped students gain clarity about the research process and understand how they can apply research methodology in their academic projects and future professional work in the healthcare and laboratory field.

A total of  40 students actively participated in the seminar and showed great enthusiasm throughout the session. The seminar proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students and helped them gain confidence in understanding research concepts.

The program was organized and coordinated by Ms. Farheenshama Shaikh, Assistant Professor, B.Voc Medical Laboratory Technology. The activity was successfully conducted with the support and guidance of Dr. Farooque Y. Shaikh (Nodal Officer, B.Voc), Dr. Gazala Pathan (Assistant Professor, B.Voc MLT), and Ms. Shahin Shaikh (Assistant Professor, B.Voc MLT). Their collective efforts ensured the smooth execution of the seminar.

Overall, the seminar on Research Methodology was highly informative and beneficial for the students. It helped them understand the importance of research in academic and professional development and motivated them to explore research opportunities in the field of medical laboratory technology. The department looks forward to organizing more such academic activities in the future to enhance students’ knowledge and research capabilities.
