From Research to Presentation- A Capacity Building Seminar By students
The
Department of B.Voc (Medical Laboratory Technology) organized a
capacity-building seminar, "From Research to Presentation," on 5
March 2026, aimed at transforming research notes into confident stage delivery.
Medical Laboratory Technology is as much about test accuracy as it is about
communicating results. The seminar, guided by Principal Dr. Iqbal Shaikh and
coordinated by Ms. Farheenshama Shaikh, targeted three core goals:
confidence-building & public-speaking practice.
The seminar's objectives were to encourage students to read and cite
recent research, develop a structured presentation flow, and provide
peer-to-peer learning in Endocrinology and Toxicology. Thirty students from TY
MLT participated, with topics assigned in advance by Ms. Farheenshama Shaikh,
each linked to the subject syllabus. The audience comprised TY MLT peers and
faculty evaluators.
The seminar opened at 11:30
am with Ms. Farheenshama Shaikh highlighting the importance of communication in
diagnostic reporting. Each student presented for 4-5 minutes, followed by a
minute of feedback. The sequence created a steady rhythm: early presenters set
the tone, while later ones built on that momentum. By 2:30 pm, every
participant had presented.
Students used various
techniques to explain their topics, including storytelling hooks, layered
detailing, and research anchoring. Many used patient-scenario openings, started
with basic definitions, and deepened with lab values and graphs. Several cited
articles from 2024-2025 journals, giving freshness beyond textbooks. Handmade
diagrams and charts helped visualization, while code-mixing made talks
relatable.
The highlights of the
seminar included a presentation on adrenal insufficiency with a news clipping
about Addison's disease awareness, a toxicology talk on organophosphate
poisoning linking lab diagnosis with real-life farmer cases in Maharashtra, and
diabetic biomarker explanations with HbA1c trends plotted from recent studies.
The outcomes were
impressive, with students showing measurable confidence growth and reduced
stage fear. Peers gained academic and presentation insights, making it a
double-learning platform. Under Principal Dr. Iqbal Shaikh's guidance and Ms.
Farheenshama Shaikh's coordination, TY MLT students turned research papers into
lived explanations.
