Under the able guidance of our esteemed Principal, Dr. Iqbal Shaikh, the Department of B.Voc Medical Laboratory Technology organized an enlightening visit to Aadhar Blood Bank, Dhankawdi, on 11 October 2025. The visit commenced at 10:15 am, providing students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on insights into the operations of a blood bank.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Ms. Tanzila Shaikh, Technical Incharge of Aadhar Blood Bank, and Mr. Sagar Patil, Managing Director of Aadhar Blood Bank. The staff's hospitality and willingness to share their expertise set a positive tone for the visit.
The students were divided into batches of 10 to ensure an interactive experience. Ms. Tanzila Shaikh, with her extensive knowledge and expertise, explained the workings of various departments within the blood bank, including:
1. Accession: The students were briefed on the processes involved in receiving and recording blood donations, highlighting the importance of accurate documentation and labeling.
2. Sample Collection Room: The students observed the procedures for collecting blood samples, understanding the protocols for maintaining sterility and ensuring sample integrity.
3. Blood Donation Room: The students gained insight into the facilities and processes for blood donation, including donor screening and post-donation care.
4. Initial Testing: The students learned about the tests conducted on donated blood to detect infectious diseases and ensure the blood's safety for transfusion.
5. Centrifugation: The students witnessed the process of separating blood components, understanding the principles of centrifugation and its applications.
6. Blood Component Separation: The students gained knowledge about the methods used to separate components like plasma, platelets, and red blood cells, and their respective uses in patient care.
7. Storage & Distribution: The students learned about the procedures for storing and distributing blood components, emphasizing the importance of maintaining proper storage conditions and inventory management.
8. Machines and Equipment: The students were introduced to the various machines and equipment used in the blood bank, including centrifuges, platelet agitators, and blood component separators.
The visit provided a comprehensive understanding of blood bank operations, highlighting the critical role of blood banks in ensuring the availability of safe blood for patients. The students gained valuable exposure, enhancing their knowledge and understanding of blood bank procedures.
The visit was attended by 47 students from the Department of B.Voc Medical Laboratory Technology, who benefited greatly from the experience.
The visit was organized by Ms. Farheenshama Shaikh, with significant support from Dr. Gazala Pathan and Ms. Shahin Shaikh.
